Fees

The Melville Douglas fee structure is designed to partner with our clients to suit their needs and objectives. Our fee basis enables us to focus on investment returns, not gathering assets.

For domestic discretionary portfolios, the annual fee sliding scale is as follows:

Portfolio size
Basic annual fee
On the first R10m
1.0%
On the next R40m
0.6%
On the balance above R50m
0.3%

The portfolio management fee for South African portfolios has two components; the basic fee and a participation fee.

Participation fee

A participation fee of 2.5% will be charged on the capital growth of the portfolio, based on a "high water-mark" principle, irrespective of the size of the portfolio. All fees charged are exclusive of VAT.

High water mark

In the event that the market value of the portfolio should have decreased at the relevant accounting date, as measured against the market value at the previous accounting date or the market value of the starting portfolio, no participation fee will be levied until such time as the market value of the portfolio has increased sufficiently to make up the decline in value. Contributions and withdrawals do not affect the quantum of market value that needs to be made up. Once the amount has been made up, the fee will then be payable, as set out above, on any capital appreciation.

Fees do not include VAT.

Fees in respect of collective investment schemes are available on request.

The Portfolio Manager does not charge or accept soft commissions.
